IdeaNova Introduces Latest IFE Player With Fast Playback Feature

The latest version of IdeaNova Technologies’ InPlay IFE Player software has features designed to improve the experience for both its clients and airline customers, including a fast preview functionality that plays the content at 1.5 times the normal speed so passengers can squeeze in the end of their movie before they land.

One year after introducing the fifth version of its Inplay IFE Player, IdeaNova Technologies has ushered in the sixth generation of the software, InPlay Web 6, which provides a single playback platform for all DRM and non-DRM content on PC, Mac, and mobile.

Following six months of solid development work, the company has introduced new features to the InPlay IFE Player, including picture-in-picture, scene seek, playlist and fast preview. Customers that have already licensed earlier versions of the InPlay IFE Player software will be able to upgrade to Inplay Web 6 free of charge.

Linda Oglesbee, account manager at IdeaNova Technologies, explained, “Picture-in-picture allows you to continue watching the movie, while browsing for other content or working on other tasks. Scene seek gives passengers the ability to scan through the content in an effort to find a scene of interest. Playlist allows passengers to pick as many TV episodes they want to watch before they fly and then binge-watch them during the flight, which works especially well when used with our Inplay IFE portal.”

“Finally, there’s fast preview – say you are running out of time and the flight is about to land. You can finish watching your content at 1.5 times the normal speed, so you don’t miss anything important while also being able to reach the end of your movie, a win-win!” Oglesbee continued.

This latest web player … has more features and better customizability, but at the same time it is easier to integrate and use.”– Janne Pelkonen, IdeaNova Technologies

By unifying the user experience for different platforms into a single player that supports Google Widevine, Apple FairPlay and Microsoft PlayReady DRM alongside playback of mpd and HLS non-DRM content, IdeaNova Technologies reduces its customers’ operating expenses. Other solutions can require multiple players, one for each platform.

Janne Pelkonen, IdeaNova Technologies’ CTO, said, “Our team is always working hard to provide more powerful, yet simpler solutions for our customers and end users. This latest web player is a perfect example of that effort: It has more features and better customizability, but at the same time it is easier to integrate and use.”

In terms of future versions of the InPlay IFE player, Oglesbee said the company is already talking about the new features they could incorporate into a seventh-generation product. “As always, the best features come from our customers, so many of the seventh-generation features might come from the sixth-generation feedback,” she commented.

“We are excited about the future and eager to see the benefits we bring to in-flight entertainment and to passengers around the world,” added the company’s CEO, Juraj Siska.
